The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students pursuing careers as professional performers or collegiate music educators. This specialized program focuses on cultivating exceptional technical mastery of a primary instrument while fostering academic excellence and professional development in music. Admission to the applied music concentration requires successful audition acceptance into one of the instrumental studios (woodwind, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp) or voice program.
The curriculum features intensive coursework in music theory fundamentals, ear training, music history, piano proficiency, and private lessons, complemented by advanced electives including counterpoint studies, jazz harmony, keyboard skills, and specialized seminars. Students expand their musical knowledge through in-depth repertoire courses and extensive ensemble participation. Performance experiences encompass symphony orchestras, opera productions, chamber music collaborations, competitive festivals, and solo recitals throughout the academic year.
Upon completing the program, graduates will: Exhibit advanced technical proficiency and artistic interpretation on their principal instrument, demonstrating comprehensive understanding of musical contexts.
