Civil engineers create the foundational systems supporting contemporary society. The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts a 7% increase in civil engineering employment from 2021 to 2031. Our researchers lead innovation in civil engineering, exploring advancements in bridge design and assessment, composite materials in concrete and steel, coastal process modeling and field studies, intelligent transportation systems, disaster science, and sustainable practices.
Our curriculum equips students to become future civil engineers with a mandatory foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering. Beginning in the spring of their junior year, students select technical electives in specialized fields including structural, geotechnical, environmental, water resources, transportation, railroad, and ocean and coastal engineering. The program additionally offers minors in environmental engineering, sustainable infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.
Our dynamic research initiatives and faculty engagement with professional organizations guarantee that the undergraduate curriculum remains current, academically rigorous, and incorporates experiential learning. Numerous opportunities exist for undergraduates to collaborate with faculty and graduate students as paid research assistants or for independent study credit. Students may also opt for our cooperative education program, acquiring industry experience while completing their degree within four years.
