Russian stands as Europe's most commonly spoken language, ranks second in global internet usage, holds eighth place among the world's most spoken languages, and shares the distinction of being one of just two official languages used aboard the International Space Station. Even basic knowledge of Russian will earn you admiration from native speakers, no matter where you encounter them.
The UD Russian Studies Program immerses students in pivotal events from Russia's extensive history while exploring its distinctive, culturally impactful heritage. Soviet-era propaganda famously touted the USSR as the globe's most literate nation - a legacy that continues today, with literature maintaining profound importance in Russian-speaking communities. Our curriculum utilizes renowned Russian literary masterpieces alongside diverse media like films, TV shows, music, social platforms, news reports, and academic papers to enhance students' linguistic abilities and cultural understanding.
