The French and Francophone Studies (FFS) Program enhances the liberal arts curriculum by cultivating cross-cultural awareness and global perspectives. Unlike the traditional French major, the FFS major offers interdisciplinary flexibility, enabling students to tailor their studies to personal interests. This program particularly appeals to those passionate about cultural topics, especially French and Francophone history and society. With the option to take courses in English, students can explore diverse departmental offerings focused on France and Francophone regions.
As an interdisciplinary initiative, the FFS Program embraces the expansive definition of "French," showcasing the rich diversity of Francophone cultures worldwide—from Canada and the Caribbean to Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. By transcending academic and geographic borders, the program invites students to select courses across humanities, arts, and social sciences. This approach not only creates a compelling academic path but also equips graduates for advanced studies or careers in international fields such as business, law, journalism, diplomacy, nonprofits, education, healthcare, and the arts.
