We aim to equip future secondary English educators with the skills to teach diverse adolescent learners through cultural sensitivity, flexibility, and meaningful instruction. Our graduates emerge as exceptionally qualified professionals, possessing both extensive subject mastery and practical classroom experience. The English Department offers a customizable undergraduate curriculum where students select three foundational courses (totaling nine credits) across these disciplines: Literary History, Textual Analysis and Production, and Cultural Diversity. With guidance from departmental advisors, students then curate their remaining eight courses (24 credits) from our extensive offerings. The program culminates in a senior-year capstone experience, with choices including internships, portfolio development, symposium participation, independent research (three-credit study or thesis), or student teaching (specifically for English Education majors).
