Art History provides students with analytical perspectives on how artistic and cultural expressions have evolved throughout history and around the globe. We enhance students' visual literacy, refine their writing skills, and ignite their creativity through encounters with artworks, artifacts, and architectural wonders that have inspired devotion, fueled revolutions, brought joy, or provoked controversy. Nearby institutions like the UD Library, Museums and Press frequently serve as hands-on learning spaces where students cultivate their expertise as art critics and museum professionals. Our curriculum covers diverse artistic traditions including American (encompassing Native American, African American, and Latin American), European, African, Asian, and Islamic art, material culture, and architecture. Students can pursue interdisciplinary paths through numerous double major and joint major options that complement their interests in fields like Art Conservation, Anthropology, English, History, and various Languages, Literatures & Cultures. By exploring humanity's creative legacy, we inspire students to become globally engaged citizens.

Spanish ranks as the world's second most widely spoken language, boasting more than 40 million native speakers. Proficiency in Spanish is especially valuable in healthcare, global commerce, public service, education, and hospitality sectors, enabling effective communication with diverse clients and partners, facilitating business expansion and negotiations, and serving multicultural populations. In these professional domains, Spanish language abilities not only expand career prospects but may also command salary premiums. Bilingual professionals often earn 5% to 20% higher hourly wages compared to monolingual colleagues. Additionally, Spanish fluency signals desirable attributes like initiative, cross-cultural competence, and flexibility - qualities that employers across sectors actively seek. Students can further develop these skills through immersive study abroad experiences in destinations including Costa Rica, Granada (Spain), Buenos Aires, and other locations.
