As a UD Adolescent to Young Adult Education student, you'll acquire the expertise and abilities needed to instruct students in grades 7 through 12. You'll engage in specialized coursework within your chosen focus area, selecting from subjects like English, math, science, or social studies. Additionally, you'll obtain a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) certification. The program provides access to various resources including a STEM laboratory and Curriculum Materials Center.
Field observations and practical experience start in your first year and progress through your second and third years. You'll complete over 600 hours in local school settings - double Ohio's mandated 300-hour minimum. In your final year, you'll undertake a full-time student teaching placement. This immersive teaching opportunity includes guided supervision and assessment to support your ongoing professional development as a future teacher.
