Approximately 20% of our first-year students opt for Discover Engineering to gain deeper insights into career options, course structures, majors, minors, and opportunities for hands-on experience. As a participant in the University of Dayton's Discover Engineering program, you will examine the academic offerings in the School of Engineering before selecting your major. Through a semester-long seminar and guidance from your Student Success advisor, you'll identify the engineering field that suits you best while maintaining academic progress. The seminar addresses the curriculum and career prospects for each engineering discipline—chemical, civil, computer, electrical, and mechanical—along with the wide range of complementary minors, concentrations, and programs. Upon choosing your engineering academic path, students admitted as Discover Engineering are assured entry into any engineering program, and those admitted as Discover Engineering Technology are guaranteed placement in any engineering technology program. If you wish to switch between engineering technology programs, you can work with your advisor to navigate the transition process.
