This is a thrilling era for microbiology professionals, and the PSM program in Microbial Systems Analysis equips students to excel in this vital discipline while helping to fill the national STEM workforce gap. The curriculum specifically prepares graduates for careers across biotech, pharma, diagnostics, government agencies, and academic institutions through a blend of rigorous coursework, hands-on lab experience, and practical internships. Students master sophisticated methodologies including genomic sequencing, bioinformatics, automated lab systems, and specialized culturing approaches - such as bacterial genome or microbiome analysis. The program's professional development component features weekly talks by industry experts and alumni from biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies, diagnostic labs, government facilities, and research institutions, offering valuable networking and learning experiences. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 in all courses of record. Alternatively, a student may present a grade point average greater than 3.0 for the last two years of undergraduate study coupled with other evidence of competence and accomplishment. Under exceptional circumstances, a student may present an exceptionally strong grade point average for the most recent year's study, along with compelling evidence of potential for success.
A personal statement from the applicant addressing his or her reasons for applying and his or her plans for the future.
Three letters of reference from faculty or others who can address the candidate's potential for success in the graduate program.
If you are not a native speaker of English, you must submit evidence of your proficiency in the English language (TOEFL IBT score).
In addition to Graduate School requirements, the following additional criteria may be used to evaluate students:
Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical GRE Scores.
Evidence of demonstrated competence in the discipline, including but not limited to undergraduate research experience or field experience, or employment history.
Personal interview by a potential graduate advisor, whenever possible.
Minimum overall scores of 79 (Internet-based test – iBT/ iBT Home Edition), 550 (Old Paper-based test – PBT) or 22/30 on each of the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections (''New'' Paper-based test- PBT) or higher on the TOEFL test. (TOEFL Essentials is not accepted.)

A minimum overall score of 53 or higher on the PTE Test.
