The Mathematics Department at UConn stands as a premier institution for mathematical studies, providing two distinct MS degree options. Situated within a leading public research university in the United States, the Department boasts over 60 faculty members specializing in diverse areas such as actuarial science, algebra, analysis, geometry, logic, number theory, probability, and math education. The program equips graduates for professional actuarial roles across insurance, pensions, finance, and consulting sectors.
The curriculum covers the majority of topics found in the initial five certification exams administered by the Society of Actuaries and Casualty Actuarial Society.
Includes optional courses that fulfill all VEE (Validation by Educational Experience) criteria set by both professional organizations.

Qualification Requirements

You must hold a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university.
A sound undergraduate program in mathematics is required for entrance into the PhD program. For the Master's degree programs, a strong undergraduate program in mathematics or a closely related field to mathematics is recommended. GRE is not required. (If you choose to take the GRE, the code is 3915.)
Three recommendation letters are required.
All international students must submit a TOEFL or IELTS score or qualify for a waiver. Further information for international graduate students is available below.

To be considered for admission by the Graduate School, an international student who has not graduated from an English speaking university must take the TOEFL iBT and achieve a score of at least 79 or take the IELTS and achieve a score of at least 6.5. PBT- 550
A cumulative GPA for their most recent degree of 3.0 or higher for the entire degree
A minimum overall score of 53 or higher on the PTE Test.
