Students complete a few foundational courses in research methodology and design, then choose a specialization area with guidance from their advisors for their remaining studies and research projects. Prospective students should examine recent M.A. thesis and Ph.D. dissertation topics to understand faculty expertise and departmental focus areas. Geography M.A. candidates can select between Plan A or Plan B: The thesis option involves 21 course credits, 9 research credits, plus developing and defending a thesis. The non-thesis alternative requires 30 course credits, a research paper, and a comprehensive final exam.
