The Geography Master's program usually spans two years. In this period, you'll take a set of foundational courses while collaborating with your academic advisor to tailor a curriculum aligned with your research focus. The program aims to cultivate your ability to pinpoint research challenges and apply appropriate conceptual frameworks and methodologies. Ohio State University has provided graduate geography education since the 1920s. Today, the department grants both MA and PhD degrees, with both programs stressing two essential competencies for modern geographers: theoretical knowledge and technical methodology. The department has built its reputation on rigorous theoretical and empirical work across four specialized fields: Environment and Society, Atmospheric and Climate Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Spatial Analysis, and Urban, Regional, and Global Studies.
