The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (EDCI) provides three distinct master's degree options. Both the Integrated Bachelors/Masters (IB/M) Program and the Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG) Program result in initial teaching credentials. This particular EDCI master's program, however, focuses on training instructional leaders for K-12 schools rather than providing certification. Non-IB/M students complete coursework building core competencies while selecting specialized electives to develop concentrated expertise. The curriculum mandates a minimum of four courses (12 credit hours) covering essential teaching foundations: social justice/human rights, student development, and language/literacy studies. Sample course listings for these focus areas can be obtained from the department. Through supplementary electives and a final portfolio, students showcase their progress toward personalized academic goals established with faculty guidance.
