The Certificate in Foundations of Public Health (CFPH) is a 12-credit program consisting of four courses that provides an introduction to public health's fundamental disciplines. This program is designed for graduate and professional students across various fields—including medicine, dentistry, law, nursing, social work, pharmacy, business, and social sciences—who wish to enhance their expertise with comprehensive knowledge of population health challenges and prospects. The certificate also welcomes early-career and experienced public health professionals, as well as individuals exploring public health careers.
To obtain the Foundations of Public Health Certificate, participants must successfully finish two mandatory courses and two electives, achieving a minimum grade of B in each.
Students can pursue the certificate either part-time or full-time, but all program requirements must be fulfilled within a three-year period starting from their initial enrollment date.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants for the certificate will be evaluated regarding their academic ability to complete course requirements, interest in working in community to advance public health and goals (e.g., anticipated benefit of certificate on career).

Applications will be reviewed upon completion of the online application which includes:

A brief personal statement (not to exceed 300 words) that describes their personal and professional interest in the field of public health. Most importantly, applicants should also describe their interests/reasons for obtaining a Graduate Certificate in the Foundations of Public Health.
Current resume or CV.
One letter of reference from an individual who can address the candidate's potential for success in the Graduate Certificate in the Foundations of Public Health.
Unofficial transcripts of all collegiate work which should be uploaded.
The GRE is not required.
Official transcripts of all collegiate work (including UConn) which should be mailed to the Graduate School

A cumulative GPA for their most recent degree of 3.0 or higher for the entire degree
Minimum overall scores of 79 (Internet-based test – iBT/ iBT Home Edition), 550 (Old Paper-based test – PBT) or 22/30 on each of the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections (''New'' Paper-based test- PBT) or higher on the TOEFL test. (TOEFL Essentials is not accepted.)
Personal Statement
A minimum overall score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic Test
A minimum overall score of 53 or higher on the PTE Test.
