The Neag School of Education provides two pathways to teacher certification: the Integrated Bachelor's/Master's (IB/M) program and the Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG). Details about TCPCG can be found in the Graduate Catalog. Their teacher preparation model combines structured academic inquiry, hands-on classroom experience, liberal arts foundations, and teaching methodology within a collaborative framework connecting public schools, professional development institutions, Neag School departments, and University faculty across disciplines.
To receive the University of Connecticut's certification endorsement, candidates must complete the five-year Integrated Bachelor's/Master's program. This includes two years of general education and subject specialization before Neag School admission, followed by two years of combined subject and education coursework as undergraduates. A final year of graduate-level professional education leads to either a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Psychology. Successful completion of Connecticut's Praxis Core and subject area assessments is also required.
