The Neag School of Education provides two certification pathways: the Integrated Bachelor's/Master's (IB/M) Teacher Education Program and the Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG). Details about TCPCG can be found in the Graduate Catalog. The school has established a teacher preparation framework that combines structured inquiry opportunities, diverse clinical experiences, liberal arts education, and teaching methodology within a collaborative setting. This model fosters partnerships between public schools, professional development institutions, Neag School departments, and University liberal arts and sciences faculty.
To receive the University of Connecticut's certification endorsement, candidates must fully complete the five-year Integrated Bachelor's/Master's Teacher Education Program. Future educators undertake a minimum of two years in general education and subject specialization before entering the Neag School. Subsequently, they engage in two years of intensive subject and professional education coursework as undergraduates, followed by a final year of graduate-level professional studies to obtain either a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Psychology. Additionally, candidates must pass Connecticut's Praxis Core evaluation and subject competency examinations.
