The Plant Science Department's landscape architecture program offers training in site planning, design principles, landscape history, visual presentation techniques, and the strategic use of plants and design elements to enhance outdoor environments. Through hands-on learning experiences including seminars, practical workshops, and internships, students develop skills to translate theoretical knowledge into real-world projects. Graduates can enter professional practice in landscape architecture or continue their education through advanced degree programs in landscape architecture and urban planning. The Landscape Architecture program earned approval from the State Board of Higher Education following facility improvements, curriculum updates, and accreditation by the American Society of Landscape Architects.
The curriculum includes foundational courses in soil science, architectural principles, plant sciences, design philosophy, historical perspectives, site development, project management, and construction techniques. Ideal candidates typically possess artistic abilities (particularly in visual communication), analytical thinking skills, and familiarity with landscape materials and land utilization potential.
