The Environmental Studies major is an interdisciplinary program that equips students with the knowledge, abilities, and viewpoints necessary to comprehend the complex relationship between human society and nature. Grasping the ethical and cultural aspects of our environmental connections, along with preservation challenges, demands perspectives from diverse fields like humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Foundational courses establish proficiency in these three core areas. Building on this shared knowledge base, students can concentrate their studies through electives in specialized interests such as sustainable development, environmental policy and justice, or humanity's philosophical and literary engagement with nature. A culminating research project enables students to explore a unique angle on current environmental concerns. Graduates may pursue careers in policy-making, environmental education, sustainable tourism, consulting, media, or activism.
This program awards a Bachelor of Arts degree through either the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) or the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR). Students should select their college affiliation in collaboration with advisors, considering their academic interests and professional aspirations.
