The Diagnostic Genetic Sciences (DGS) program is an academic and hands-on training curriculum focused on genetic and genomic analysis, culminating in a Bachelor of Science degree. This field applies genetic testing data to screen, diagnose, predict outcomes, and track various medical conditions. Professionals in diagnostic genetics play a vital role in advancing research and implementing genetic knowledge for personalized healthcare solutions. The DGS degree meets the standards for diagnostic molecular sciences, as recognized by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) (5600 N. River Rd, Suite 70, Rosemont IL 60018-5119, 773-714-8880). Students engage in both classroom instruction and practical lab work on campus, followed by clinical rotations at partner facilities. Upon completing the program, graduates qualify to take the ASCP Board of Certification exam in molecular biology (MB).
