The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies provides a customizable and personalized educational path. Learners can choose a broad curriculum covering diverse theatre disciplines or specialize in one of our focused tracks: Stage Management, Directing, Playwriting, Theatre Management, or Dramaturgy. Each student designs their academic journey in partnership with their faculty advisor. During their final year, students undertake a culminating project that showcases their skill progression and creative perspective.
BA candidates acquire hands-on experience through Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT), the performance wing of the Dramatic Arts Department, as well as through student-initiated productions. CRT provides positions for stage managers, assistant directors, and dramaturgs. Those focusing on theatre management collaborate with CRT professionals, gaining expertise in areas like audience engagement, marketing, and company operations. BA participants also direct and stage original works through student-run
initiatives. Additionally, they can audition for CRT and student productions or serve as assistant designers.
The academic curriculum includes theatre history and literature courses, complemented by interdisciplinary studies in fields such as history, anthropology, political science, human rights, art, and philosophy. This comprehensive approach underscores theatre's significance as an interdisciplinary cornerstone of human civilization.
By blending rigorous academics with practical experience, the BA program equips students with both the creative and intellectual tools needed for professional success in theatre and related fields, while cultivating artists who understand theatre's essential cultural contribution.
