This department provides career-focused training for aspiring journalists while also helping other students enhance their writing, interviewing, and research abilities while gaining media literacy. Journalism courses require students to create publishable, professional-grade work whenever feasible.
Journalism majors are encouraged to complement their studies with courses in history, economics, political science, and other liberal arts to build a strong foundation for news reporting. The department highly recommends pursuing a dual major. Gaining professional experience before graduation is essential, whether through part-time positions, the Co-operative Education Program, or departmental internships. Internship opportunities exist with newspapers, broadcast stations, magazines, digital publications, and political communications offices.
