Equips individuals to educate in varied middle and high school environments while broadening students' perspectives, fostering global awareness, and enhancing analytical abilities. The program includes a residency model refined over nearly three decades of collaboration with partner institutions. The University of Colorado Denver's MA in Teaching (MAT) with Secondary Social Studies (7-12) certification thoroughly prepares educators to teach social studies in diverse secondary classrooms within one year. A globally-focused social studies curriculum enriches students' worldviews and strengthens their critical analysis skills. Through instruction from passionate educators and distinguished faculty in a time-tested residency program developed over 30 years with partner schools, our program—and our graduates—excel. We aim to empower you to profoundly influence student learning, creativity, and success while fostering your growth as an educational leader within your school and professional community.
The Graduate Teacher Education program results in both a Master of Arts in Teaching degree and initial teaching certification. It develops educators who embrace cultural diversity, partner effectively with families and communities, and possess the expertise to build dynamic, inclusive learning environments where every student thrives. We collaborate extensively with our P-12 partners across the CU Denver Professional Development School Network, which includes more than 20 urban schools throughout Denver's metropolitan area. Throughout the program, teacher candidates fully immerse themselves in the teaching profession through year-long residency placements at professional development schools. U
