History students will:
Recognize key figures, events, and developments relevant to their studies, compare patterns across time periods, regions, and topics, interpret historical perspectives and their influence on actions, assess societal, cultural, political, and economic options available in specific historical contexts, investigate the causes of historical change.
The master's degree in history consists of 36 credit hours (12 courses). Prospective students should possess some historical background, though an undergraduate history degree isn't mandatory. The department invites applications from learners of all ages seeking to advance or renew their education. Graduate history students cultivate analytical reasoning, writing proficiency, and independent research capabilities. Our curriculum readies graduates for multiple professional avenues including education, public administration, cultural institution leadership, and conservation work, along with postgraduate opportunities in historical research, legal practice, information management, and commercial sectors.
