The STEM-accredited Master of Architecture (M.Arch) program holds full recognition from the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). This program equips students with the necessary skills to begin their architectural careers and pursue professional licensure. Our goal is to pioneer the exploration, sharing, and implementation of architectural knowledge through a blend of theoretical and practical approaches. Within this cooperative learning environment, we prioritize environmental sustainability, economic factors, social considerations, cultural aspects, aesthetic values, and ethical principles. The M.Arch program provides two distinct pathways tailored to students' academic backgrounds. Candidates without an architecture-related bachelor's degree should anticipate approximately three years to complete their M.Arch. Those holding a pre-professional architecture or design degree may qualify for advanced standing, potentially finishing their degree in roughly two years. This structure enables students with relevant undergraduate preparation to obtain their professional M.Arch degree in as little as two years (actual program length may vary). The structured curriculum features four sequential design studios alongside fundamental courses and elective options.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Art in Architecture or Bachelor of Environmental Design to be considered for this track.
A resume that documents your educational and professional background
Statement of purpose: The statement of purpose should be a 750-1000 word essay that describes your interest in architecture and CU Denver as well as your academic and professional goals. Avoid clichd statements such as I have always wanted to be an architect or ever since I was a child playing with legos.
Three letters of recommendation: You will submit the contact information in your application for three instructors or other professionals who can attest to your potential for our M.Arch program. They will receive an email from CU Denver with a link to upload their letters directly to your application.
Transcript(s) - International transcripts: An International Credential Evaluation Report is required for any applicant who attended one or more academic institution(s) located outside the United States. All international credentials from the academic institution(s) located outside the United States will need to be verified for authenticity and evaluated by CU Denver or an external evaluation provider (ECE or WES).
Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores are not required for the Master of Architecture program. They are strongly encouraged if your undergraduate GPA was below a 3.0 on a 4-point scale.
International applicants must submit proof of English language proficiency. You can view the required scores on the Office of International Admissions website.
Portfolio of creative work: Your portfolio should demonstrate your ability to pursue architecture study at a high level. Your portfolio should demonstrate high-quality design as well as a technical understanding of architecture. You should include your best studio work and you are welcome to include other creative pursuits. If you include professional or other group work, please clearly indicate your role on the project. Your portfolio should be carefully organized to showcase your best work. Take care with how you compose each page and your image sequencing. Chronological is often not the best organizing schema. Portfolios should be designed for on-screen viewing. Avoid double-page spread layouts.
Students admitted into this program must have completed a Bachelor's degree before they will be able to begin this program. An official conferred degree transcript is required by the university.
