The Chemistry Department provides two chemistry degree paths: a BS in Chemistry or an ACS-Certified BS in Chemistry. Those considering a chemistry major should maintain regular contact with the department advisor, Dr. Marta K. Maro (marta.maronucdenver.edu). Dr. Maro can guide you in choosing the program that aligns with your career aspirations. Detailed information about the chemistry major programs is available in the Chemistry Department office (Science 3071). High-achieving majors are highly encouraged to engage in faculty-directed research and join the departmental honors program. Additionally, chemistry majors are welcome to contribute to the Department by working as graders, learning assistants, or teaching assistants. For further details, reach out to the chemistry major advisor.
Undergraduates can earn academic credit for employment experiences with educational value, provided they're supervised by a CLAS faculty member. Internships serve as valuable opportunities for career discovery during early academic years or for gaining professional experience after establishing a foundation in the major.
Eligibility requires a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA across at least 15 CU Denver credit hours. Students may apply up to 12 internship credits per semester (with a 12-credit lifetime maximum) toward the 120 credits needed for graduation. Some courses may have additional credit restrictions. For internship contract specifics and faculty sponsorship details, undergraduates should consult the Experiential Learning Center.
