Earn a Master of Science in Museum & Field Studies from a leading U.S. research university, with an optional Professional Certificate for working museum professionals and graduate students from other disciplines. The curriculum covers fundamental museum operations alongside specialized electives in biology, paleontology, anthropology, and related fields. Program participants benefit from access to Colorado's most comprehensive natural diversity library and utilize state-of-the-art facilities in the newly upgraded Bruce Curtis Building. This facility contains approximately 3 million specimens from CU Boulder's Museum of Natural History collections, featuring a purpose-built laboratory classroom, three advanced smart classrooms, multiple research labs and collection libraries, a walk-in decontamination freezer, and a dedicated casting lab for reproducing paleontological and archaeological artifacts.
Students must meet all university requirements for admission to graduate school and have a baccalaureate degree and at least a B (3.00) grade-point average in previous academic work. The baccalaureate degree should be in anthropology, biology, geology, geography, history (including archival studies), classics, fine arts or education, although other majors will be considered.
All international applicants are required to meet a minimum standard of English proficiency.
