The College of Music faculty has designed CU Boulder's MM degree programs following the standards set by the National Association of Schools of Music. The Master of Music program aims to enhance expertise in musical performance, composition, academic research, writing, and teaching methods. Students can specialize in various disciplines including composition, conducting, music theory, performance, or performance with pedagogy. Note that musicology is exclusively offered at the doctoral level.
This graduate program offers advanced training in performance (with pedagogical options), composition (including technology-focused tracks), music theory, and conducting (covering choral, orchestral, and wind ensembles). Performance specializations encompass all orchestral instruments, guitar, harp, harpsichord, jazz studies, organ, piano, and vocal arts. Every MM curriculum combines focused major studies, supplementary music electives, and culminating thesis/recital requirements.
