The Sustainable Food Systems specialization equips students to critically and creatively tackle major food system issues. This program takes a comprehensive view of food systems, encompassing every phase from farming and production to processing, distribution, sales, consumption, and waste management - along with the various private, nonprofit, research, and governmental entities working to enhance system sustainability. Students will develop systems thinking skills to examine food-environment relationships, grasp the interplay of science, policy, and ethics, and evaluate the balances and connections between different goals, approaches, and results.
