The interdisciplinary graduate program in Integrated Plant and Soil Sciences provides advanced studies culminating in Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, with focus areas including Crop Science, Horticultural Science, Forest Science, Plant Biology, and Soil Science. Our faculty members are drawn from the Departments of Forestry, Horticulture, and Plant and Soil Sciences within the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment. The IPSS program enhances existing graduate research opportunities in Crop Science, Horticulture, Forest Science, Plant Biology, and Soil Science at both M.S. and Ph.D. levels. This collaborative initiative fosters an interdisciplinary framework for graduate education and research innovation. The program creates an adaptable academic setting that nurtures interdisciplinary expertise, develops customized programs, and initiates projects aligned with the evolving needs of plant and soil science students, while addressing emerging scientific directions in agricultural research.
The Integrated Plant and Soil Sciences graduate program offers Master of Science (MS) studies with specializations in Crop Science (encompassing weed science and forage studies), Environmental Science and Ecosystem Ecology (including ecotoxicology, biogeochemistry, environmental chemistry, and ecosystem modeling), Horticultural Science, Plant Biology (covering biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, and seed biology), and Soil Science (with concentrations in biogeochemistry, chemistry, fertility, microbiology, pedology, physics, and rhizosphere science).
