The CU Linguistics Department is deeply dedicated to outstanding teaching for both graduate and undergraduate students. Faculty members bring diverse research expertise spanning syntactic theory, sociocultural linguistics, computational and psycholinguistics, phonetics/phonology, and language documentation, enabling students to develop broad skills and specialized knowledge across multiple linguistic disciplines.

At all academic levels, the Linguistics department aims to help students understand language's core structural elements—including sound systems, morphological and syntactic processes, and meaning organization—while fostering appreciation for linguistic diversity: the vast range of world languages, language's role in social identity, and both individual and historical language development.
