The department provides a graduate certificate in development studies, an interdisciplinary program. Development Studies is a recognized interdisciplinary research area, with dedicated centers at prominent universities and specialized academic publications. This certificate delivers cross-disciplinary education in development studies through a balanced curriculum featuring courses from various CU social science departments. Since development topics—including agricultural transformation, workforce migration, emerging social movements, economic expansion, city development, and environmental management—span multiple disciplines, they require multifaceted academic perspectives.
Applicants must:
Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or have done work equivalent to that required for such a degree.
Show promise of ability to pursue advanced study and research, as judged by the student’s scholastic record.
Have adequate preparation to enter graduate study in the chosen field. Have at least a 2.75 (2.00=C) undergraduate grade point average.
All international applicants are required to meet a minimum standard of English proficiency.
