Our department offers a distinctive Ph.D. program in Spanish, specializing in Medieval and Early Modern Hispanic Studies. Colorado's faculty expertise and curriculum in these historical literary periods are unmatched by most national programs. Our dynamic graduate community thrives in a collaborative atmosphere, with an excellent track record of placing graduates in both liberal arts institutions and major research universities.

Each year, we provide three specialized graduate seminars covering Medieval and Early Modern literatures: Golden Age Peninsular studies, Colonial literature, and Medieval studies. This focused approach ensures our students benefit from unparalleled guidance and instruction. Doctoral candidates can choose to concentrate solely on Medieval/Early Modern Hispanic Literatures or blend their focus—such as Colonial studies—with more contemporary literary movements.
