The BPSG program examines how both genetic factors (nature) and environmental influences (nurture) shape development, brain architecture, cognitive processes, personality traits, and mental health conditions. Our program maintains a robust emphasis on pioneering new methodological, statistical, and computational techniques for behavioral genetics research. Every faculty member and graduate student in BPSG collaborates closely with CU's Institute for Behavioral Genetics (IBG), a premier interdisciplinary research hub that brings together experts from Psychology & Neuroscience, Integrative Physiology, Sociology, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, as well as the School of Pharmacy and Psychiatry Department at CU's Medical Center in Denver. Cross-disciplinary behavioral genetics research represents our standard approach, which we actively promote within both the BPSG program and the Institute for Behavioral Genetics.
