The Music Education Department's seasoned instructors are dedicated to equipping students for thriving careers in K-12 music instruction. The program combines coursework on educational theory and pedagogical techniques, hands-on classroom experiences across grade levels, and leadership roles in specialized initiatives (such as the Middle School Ensemble Program, Summer Music Academy, and NAfME Collegiate Chapter) to develop well-rounded, skilled educators. For two decades, the program has maintained an exceptional graduate employment rate approaching full placement.
Recognizing the diverse demands of K-12 music instruction, the undergraduate curriculum carefully balances specialized training with broad foundational knowledge. Bachelor of Music Education candidates must develop both comprehensive understanding of full music curricula and specific competencies for teaching general music, choral, orchestral, or band programs effectively.
