The Integrated English Language Arts Education program culminates in a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. This Ohio Department of Education-approved curriculum equips future educators to teach English (including writing, language, and literature) to grades 7-12 students. Alongside fulfilling Miami Plan requirements, participants complete coursework in both English and Education disciplines. The program features hands-on classroom observations and teaching experiences across urban and suburban/rural settings, concluding with an intensive 15-week student teaching placement where candidates gradually take over full teaching duties under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers in secondary schools.
This comprehensive program equips you to modernize educational approaches for contemporary learning environments. You'll gain practical experience working with diverse student populations while building expertise in psychological principles and developmental theories. The substantial English course component often leads students to pursue a dual major in English. While many graduates enter secondary education, career paths also include publishing and communications fields. Those pursuing further studies may advance to leadership positions in educational administration.
