Students earn honors in sociology by completing and defending an original honors thesis. This research project involves selecting a topic in consultation with a faculty advisor. The honors program typically begins during the fall of senior year, with students enrolling in the two-semester Sociology Honors Seminar (3 credits each term). Each participant must secure a faculty advisor to guide their research process. Regular meetings with the advisor are required, along with biweekly group sessions led by Dr. Hunter where students share progress, address difficulties, and offer mutual support throughout their thesis work.
