The Criminal Justice faculty has invested significant effort in crafting a curriculum that thoroughly prepares doctoral students in the foundational principles of criminal justice and criminology. Our objective is to provide all University of Cincinnati graduates with uniform, rigorous training that equips them for research careers in these fields. While maintaining this strong core, the program offers flexibility through elective courses and dissertation work, allowing students to specialize in areas aligned with their individual academic passions.
Upon earning their Ph.D., graduates will possess comprehensive knowledge of criminal justice theory, criminological concepts, and advanced research methodologies. The program mandates coursework in both a foundational track (either Criminal Justice or Criminology) and a specialized concentration (Corrections, Policing, or Crime Prevention). Additionally, to foster professional growth, the curriculum incorporates practical training in teaching techniques and research methodologies.

Admission requirements include:
A baccalaureate degree or higher from an accredited institution
Preferred minimum grade point average of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
Applicants without a graduate degree may be admitted at the doctoral level or referred to the master's program (or denied admission)
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores
Preferred scores in 50th percentile or above
At least two (2) letters of recommendation (3 preferred)
A personal statement describing relevant qualifications, goals, and program fit
Recent writing sample
Curriculum Vitae highlighting any prior research or teaching experience is recommended

TOEFL minimum score of 80 iBT
