The Carl H. Lindner College of Business's Department of Finance, Real Estate, and Insurance and Risk Management provides a challenging, methodical doctoral program designed to cultivate the quantitative, analytical, and instructional abilities essential for excelling as a financial economist or academic professional. Our core mission is to prepare graduates for distinguished roles at leading universities, research centers, or within the financial economics discipline.
In recent years, our department has seen remarkable expansion, welcoming brilliant, dynamic new PhD graduates from prestigious institutions like Columbia University, Indiana University, London Business School, and the University of Michigan to complement our globally recognized faculty. We mentor a carefully chosen group of doctoral students annually, guiding them through diverse empirical and theoretical finance research projects.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for all applicants whose native language is other than English. Official scores from the Educational Testing Service must be submitted before an admissions decision can be made. Copies of test scores are not acceptable. Presently, the minimum TOEFL score acceptable for graduate work in the College of Business is 100 internet-based (250 computer-based or 600 paper-based). The average TOEFL score for doctoral students is 111 internet- based (273 computer-based or 640 paper-based). IELTS- 7
