This program cultivates an understanding and practical skills in historic preservation principles and methods. Students earn the certificate after finishing mandatory coursework along with an internship, studio work, or department-specific projects.
Participants enroll through their home department in either the UC College of Arts and Sciences or the UC College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. Established in 1981, the historic preservation certificate program enables undergraduate and graduate students to obtain the credential while fulfilling their degree requirements. It also provides non-degree-seeking students and bachelor's degree holders a pathway to earn the certificate. While not an accredited standalone degree, the certificate provides specialized expertise to complement other accredited degree programs.
