The University of Cincinnati's Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education equips graduates with the qualifications and licensure needed to teach students in grades 7-12 at junior and senior high schools. Our program provides hands-on teaching experience in diverse urban environments, employing evidence-based instructional methods to support all classroom learners. Secondary education majors focus on one primary subject area: Integrated English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, or Physics.
Those pursuing a Physics specialization become certified to teach general science for 7th and 8th grades, along with high school physical science, astronomy, or physics courses (including Advanced Placement with proper training). Physics track students complete coursework equivalent to a physics major, supplemented by mathematics requirements and broad science studies. The program trains all future educators to design lessons that establish core scientific knowledge, facilitate problem-solving through lab work, and foster teamwork skills for engineering and design challenges.
