Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) deliver physical therapy treatments under the guidance of licensed physical therapists. These professionals assist individuals of various ages who face medical issues or health conditions affecting their mobility and daily functional abilities. PTAs are employed across diverse healthcare environments such as hospitals, private clinics, outpatient centers, home care services, long-term care facilities, educational institutions, and athletic venues. Their responsibilities may involve tracking patient progress during therapy sessions and conducting specific standardized assessments as directed by the supervising physical therapist.
PTA services often involve instructing patients in therapeutic exercises to improve movement, strength, and coordination, as well as training in assistive device usage like crutches or walkers. They may also administer treatments including therapeutic massage and modalities like ultrasound or electrical stimulation therapy.
