The Master of Arts in Humanities (MAPH) at the University of Chicago is an intensive one-year graduate program enabling students to specialize in fields like Art History or English, or pursue interdisciplinary studies. Qualification Requirements

Statement of academic purpose (No more than 1000 words, single spaced). Critical writing sample (10-15 pages). Three letters of recommendation from previous academic instructors. Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. TOEFL - International applicants submitting a TOEFL score must meet the following requirements: Total score must be 104 or higher. Sub-scores must be 26 or higher. Scores must be less than two years old. Scores must be sent to the University of Chicago, institutional code 1832. IELTS - International applicants submitting an IELTS score must meet the following requirements: Total score must by 7 or higher. Sub-scores must be 7 or higher. Score must be less than two years old. Additional Application Requirements BA/MA Students in The College may be eligible to participate in a BA/Master of Arts Degree in the Humanities. Please refer to The College website for more information about the application process. Classical Languages Applicants interested in the Classical Languages Option must submit the above materials and a list of the Greek and Latin texts that they have read in the original, as well as all such texts they plan to read before matriculation. Creative Writing Applicants interested in the Creative Writing Option must submit the above materials and an additional creative writing sample. The creative writing sample should be written in the proposed genre of study. Two-Year Language Option Applicants interested in the Two-Year Language Option (TLO) must submit the above materials and a supplemental document. In the supplement, applicants should indicate why they are interested in the TLO and what langauge(s) they plan to study.
