Focused on film studies, this graduate program equips students with analytical abilities, research techniques, and knowledge of key discussions that have shaped cinema studies as a distinct field. Simultaneously, examining cinema and related media requires a multidisciplinary perspective in several ways. Film aesthetics are deeply connected to the cultural, social, political, and economic environments where cinema originated and which it subsequently influenced. Similarly, cinema's evolution cannot be isolated from its relationship with other media forms. As part of a broader visual and auditory culture encompassing television, video, and digital media, cinema also builds upon earlier innovations in photography, sound recording, and traditional arts (including painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, theater, and music). Moreover, the program's cross-disciplinary approach highlights the variety of film and media traditions across different nations, transnational settings, and historical eras, fostering an appreciation of cinema as a dynamic and culturally significant art form.

Applicants from a three-year bachelor’s program will be given due consideration. Because all of our programs feature competitive admission, no particular academic degree or background will guarantee admission to one of our graduate divisions.
