Theater and Performance Studies (TAPS) explores the dynamic relationship between artistic practice and theoretical study. The program provides hands-on studio courses, academic seminars, and hybrid studio-seminars that blend scholarly research with creative exploration. TAPS classes are led by renowned faculty members and Chicago-based professional artists. Undergraduates collaborate with the Director of Undergraduate Studies and academic advisors to design personalized study plans that align with their interests while meeting program requirements. Students can focus their studies on specialized areas such as acting, dance, creative development and writing (across various formats), design, direction, dramaturgy, digital media, performance theory, theatrical history, or a mix of these disciplines. Those pursuing other majors have the option to double major or minor in TAPS.
