Physics explores the nature of matter, energy, forces, and their interactions throughout our world and the universe. The Department of Physics offers a BA program with a curriculum that prioritizes hands-on experimentation while providing comprehensive foundational knowledge for graduate studies in theoretical or experimental physics, engineering disciplines, and interdisciplinary fields requiring technical expertise (such as biophysics, medical physics, and atmospheric sciences). The BA in physics features a flexible structure that thoroughly addresses core physics principles while allowing customization through electives. Required coursework spans introductory and advanced physics and mathematics, with students able to count two physics and two math classes toward general education requirements. Though first-year enrollment is recommended, the program can be completed in three years, enabling students to begin their physics studies in their second year without postponing graduation.
