The Bachelor of Arts program in Medieval Studies introduces students to diverse medieval sources from multiple viewpoints (historical, literary, artistic, theological) to prepare them for their BA thesis. Learners explore the Middle Ages through historical, literary, and related studies. Active participation in the Medieval Studies Workshop is highly recommended. Research opportunities include the Regenstein Library's Special Collections Research Center and the Newberry Library. The curriculum requires eleven courses: at least three history-focused, three language-focused, and two from other fields (art, music, philosophy, theology). Students must also show proficiency in reading a medieval source language, demonstrated through coursework and thesis research. While Latin is strongly recommended for Western studies, alternatives exist for Byzantine, Jewish, or Islamic studies.
Students are required to have high school equivalent of US qualification.
