The Bachelor of Arts in History with Secondary Social Studies Education Certification requires completing 122 credit hours. This includes the university's core curriculum, 36 hours of history classes, 14 hours of foreign language study, and 24 hours dedicated to education courses, fieldwork, and student teaching. The program also includes political science, economics, and geography courses to provide comprehensive social studies preparation. After fulfilling all degree requirements, graduates can take Texas's state teaching certification exams through the Texas Education Agency. Passing this exam qualifies students to teach social studies for grades 7 through 12.
Students must have completed official secondary school transcripts, diplomas, certificates and/or national test examination scores as appropriate for the educational systems in their country. In order to be considered for freshman admission students must have completed secondary school studies equivalent to that of United States high school graduation.
The minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL is 79 on the Internet-based test, 550 on the paper-based test and 213 on the computer-based test. The IELTS can be substituted for TOEFL scores. The minimum acceptable overall score of 6.5 is required for admission. Scores must be sent directly to UT Arlington from the Testing Service to be considered official.
