Clinical exercise physiology is an emerging healthcare profession dedicated to working with patients who have chronic illnesses, medical conditions, and multiple health issues. These certified specialists apply evidence-based approaches to conduct diagnostic exercise tests, develop personalized exercise plans, provide activity guidance, oversee training sessions, and deliver wellness education to support recovery and chronic disease prevention. Clinical exercise physiologists practice in diverse healthcare environments, including hospitals, community programs, and public health initiatives.
The Master of Science in Kinesiology with a Clinical Exercise Physiology (CEP) specialization equips students for clinical practice or research careers across various CEP disciplines. This program develops expertise in cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, aging-related, cancer-related, musculoskeletal, neurological, immune system, and behavioral modification specialties. The coursework prepares graduates to successfully complete the ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiology certification examination, enabling immediate entry into healthcare practice. Additionally, the program provides strong foundations for those pursuing doctoral studies or advanced research in clinical exercise physiology and related health fields.
