The CACREP-accredited Master of Education in Counselor Education with a School Counseling specialization prepares students to become certified professional school counselors across all educational levels, from pre-K to postsecondary. This specific track (distinct from the Master of Arts in Counselor Education, School Counseling track) is tailored for individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree in education, have completed teacher certification coursework, and now seek school counseling certification.
Emphasizing practical training, the School Counseling program combines academic coursework with hands-on experience. Students may complete their initial clinical practicum either in public schools or at UCF's Community Counseling and Research Center. The culminating internship requires 600 clinical hours in a K-12 school environment. The UCF Community Counseling and Research Center functions as both a training facility and research hub, where graduate students offer counseling services to diverse populations - including children, adolescents, and adults - through individual, couples, and family therapy sessions. Annually, the CCRC provides support to over 1400 clients throughout central Florida.
