The MAT in Teacher Education with a focus on Art Education is a state-recognized initial certification program designed for aspiring K-12 art educators, including those already certified in other teaching fields.

This Master of Arts in Teaching program adheres to Florida Administrative Code regulations (State Board of Education Rule 6A-5.066), which may be updated. Participants should maintain regular communication with their advisor to stay informed about any modifications made to meet evolving state standards.

The Art Education MAT program demands at least 37 credit hours of graduate coursework. It serves both undergraduates without education backgrounds and currently certified teachers seeking additional certification.

Students must complete a digital portfolio showcasing their professional growth through reflective practice and evidence of meeting all Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAPs) at the beginner level. This portfolio requires multiple work samples and thoughtful analyses for each practice standard, serving as essential tools for evaluating students' development as reflective educators. The program also includes a mandatory internship component.
